Admiral Ackbar Actor Claims Harrison Ford Wanted Him Fired from Return of the Jedi

Admiral Ackbar actor Tim Rose is revealing some of his Star Wars secrets. Rose acted and did puppeteer work on the original trilogy, along with The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Apparently, he and Harrison Ford had a bit of a misunderstanding on the Return of the Jedi set, which nearly got him fired. Rose also broke his silence on the death of Admiral Ackbar and how he feels about the whole situation.
While working in Return of the Jedi, Tim Rose also played Salacious Crumb, Jabba the Hutt’s little Kowakian monkey sidekick with the mischievous laugh. They were shooting the scene where Leia breaks in and saves Han Solo from his carbonite prison. After he’s out, the two characters kiss, which caused Jabba and his audience to shout, “We saw you kissing!” over and over again. This apparently was not a good thing for Harrison Ford. Rose explains.
“Harrison went over to the director and said ‘Are these puppet characters going to laugh over my line? Because I don’t want to have to come back and do ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement).'”
Return of the Jedi director Richard Marquand told the actors to do some silent cheers for the next take. Marquand sat next to Salacious Crumb after the second take, according to Tim Rose and asked what he thought. Rose, in character as Salacious Crumb, reportedly said, “Eh, this Harrison guy… is he gonna talk over our laugh? ’cause it’s really putting me off.” However, Rose forgot that his mic was still on and Harrison Ford heard the joke. The iconic Sar Wars actor was allegedly not very happy about the joke, which the crew thought was funny.
Tim Rose says that Harrison Ford refused to come back to the set until the person who made the joke was fired. Since Rose was usually doing puppet work or appearing on screen with a mask on, Ford didn’t know who he was and the crew were able to tell him that a “new guy” was indeed fired. This sounds a bit fishy, but it could have happened. Rose takes great pleasure in telling the story. On the opposite side of the fence, Rose was not particularly happy with his role in the latest trilogy. He had this to say.
“After The Force Awakens — for whatever reason, length of picture, whatever — it all got cut out. So after waiting 30 years to reprise Admiral Ackbar I was a little disappointed with Ackbar’s role in that picture. So in The Last Jedi, I was quite looking forward to maybe them giving him something more juicy. We were only given the script on the day when we were shooting that piece of script, so each day I would come to work going, ‘Is today the day when Ackbar gets something a bit more involving?’ And I looked at my script and I went, ‘Oh, Ackbar’s going out of the window. Well, that’s that then!’ I wasn’t quite dead yet.”
Harrison Ford has yet to respond to Tim Rose’s story and he likely will not. Ford doesn’t seem to care about too much these days and is fine saying whatever he wants in interviews. Walking off of the set doesn’t seem like something he would do, but we don’t actually know the man on a personal level, so anything is possible.
