Batman Beyond Animated Movie Concept Art Leaked, Is It Really Happening?

A Batman Beyond animated movie is said to be in the works at Warner Bros. Unlike many of the animated DC Comics adaptations, which are regularly received very well by the fanbase, the plan is apparently for the studio to release this movie theatrically. While nobody in any official capacity has come forward to confirm the news, some concept art from the alleged project has leaked online and, when coupled with some additional, recently leaked info, this makes more and more sense.

According to a new report, Warner Bros. is actively developing a Batman Beyond movie, based on the popular animated series of the same name. The plan currently is to release the movie in 2022, but that has not been set in stone. No casting has been announced and it seems as though, based on what information is available at the present time, that this is in the early stages. But several pieces of concept art have leaked online showcasing the movie’s would-be lead character, Terry McGinnis. One image features him both in and out of costume, while the other shows him discovering several suits in the Batcave.

Another recent leak from Daniel Richtman also showed a board with Warner Bros. Animation’s upcoming slate and there was an unnamed DC movie on the board which is looking to begin production in 2020. Given the timeline, it’s quite possible this is the Batman Beyond movie. Again, for the time being, this should be regarded as a rumor until someone from the studio says otherwise, but putting the pieces together paints a rather compelling and possibly tantalizing picture for DC fans. Even though it wouldn’t be live-action, this is something many have been calling for online for a very long time.

For those who may not be familiar, Batman Beyond takes place in the year 2039 and sees Bruce Wayne, old and far beyond his prime, no longer able to fight crime in Gotham City. The young Terry McGinnis is then taken under the older Wayne’s wing and trained to be the new Caped Crusader in the future version of Gotham City. This take on the character was initially introduced as an animated series in 1999, which ran for a total of 52 episodes, ending in 2001. Since then, Terry McGinnis has been brought into the DC Comics fold and has become a very popular character in his own right.

This is no doubt, at least in part, thanks to the success that Sony has enjoyed with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which has been a huge success at the box office, met with critical acclaim and recently secured an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, to go along with its Golden Globes win. DC also found success with the theatrically released Teen Titans Go! to the Movies last year. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as any further details on the project are made available. Be sure to check out the leaked concept art below. This news was first reported by Geeks Worldwide.
