We have some sad news to pass along today, as it has been reported that Dick Miller has passed away. Survived by his wife Lainie, daughter Barbara, and granddaughter Autumn, Miller’s cause of death has not yet been revealed. Anyone who’s familiar with Miller certainly sees this as a tremendous loss, given all of the entertainment the actor has brought to audiences over the years. You may or may not know his name, but this is someone whose face you will definitely recognize. Miller was one of those actors who would typically show up in bit parts in various movies, yet always had the ability to elevate everything he appeared in. More often than not, Miller would steal the show with his roles, despite how limited his screen time may have been.
Miller’s legendary career began in 1956, when iconic filmmaker Roger Corman hired him to appear in his movie It Conquered the World. A collaboration was born, and Corman would consistently cast Miller to appear in many more movies over the following years, including The Little Shop of Horrors. Notably, it was Corman who first cast Miller as a character named Walter Paisley for a movie called A Bucket of Blood. Humorously, Miller would use the very same character name when he appeared in many other movies from various directors over the course of his career. Hollywood Boulevard, The Howling, and Twilight Zone: The Movie are a few of the other titles to have Miller playing Walter Paisley. Ultimately, Miller’s final role in the upcoming horror movie Hanukkah has him playing the character one last time, this time as a rabbi.
Perhaps the most memorable of all of Miller’s roles came in the 1984 horror comedy Gremlins. As a kindly neighbor named Murray Futterman, the character is the first to warn Billy of the potential dangers of the gremlins. In the movie, Murray gets his home destroyed by the troublemaking creatures, presumably resulting in the death of him and his wife. However, both characters would later return in the sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch, once again giving Miller the chance to steal the show as he always does. Fans of the actor will always appreciate all of the various Walter Paisleys, but there’s just as much to love about Murray Futterman as well.

These are just a few of the many, many roles Miller has appeared in. Beyond seeing him in movies like Gremlins, Miller can be spotted in many other well-known movies as well. Among others, this includes The ‘Burbs, Small Soldiers, and Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. Miller also had a very memorable role in the 1984 James Cameron movie The Terminator, playing the owner of a gun shop visited by Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular cyborg. The size of the role may always vary, but Miller always shined in every single part.
Circumstances surrounding Miller’s passing were not immediately made available. One thing that is clearly for sure is that Miller will forever be missed, but his work lives on through the many memorable roles he’s given to us throughout his movie career. This information comes to us from Variety.
