We have some new images from Rambo: Last Blood that highlight the character’s adopted family, who will be at the center of this new story. Sylvester Stallone has been on something of a goodbye tour, closing out the biggest chapters of his career. The actor recently announced that Creed 2 is his goodbye to the character of Rocky Balboa and, while not totally confirmed, it’s more or less also going to be the case that this latest installment of the franchise is his goodbye to John Rambo as well. While we impatiently await the arrival of some actual footage, Stallone has teased us with several new images highlighting important new characters.
The image was shared by Sylvester Stallone on his Instagram, where he’s been quite active in updating his fans during the production of Rambo 5. He shared a slew of images and set videos during filming and also shared a touching video when production wrapped. This time around, he’s highlighted his co-stars Adriana Barraza and Yvette Monreal, who are playing his “adopted” family, Maria and Gabriella, respectively. Here’s what Stallone had to say about the photos in his caption.
“Rambo and his ‘adopted’ family, Gabriella Yvette Monreal and Maria Adriana Barraza …. The people he loves and lives to protect.”
In the previous movie, once Rambo wrapped up his very deadly work, he finally returned home to his family farm and, so it seemed, would be living the quiet life. It’s been about a decade since the events of the previous movie and, based on the previous pictures we’ve seen, and these new ones, John has indeed been keeping quiet. But things aren’t going to stay that way for much longer.
Rambo 5 sees Gabriella kidnapped, forcing John to once again put his deadly skills to use as he tangles with the Mexican cartel. The cast also includes Paz Vega, whose sister has also been kidnapped by the cartel, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta, who will play the primary antagonist. This will represent a major change of scenery for the franchise, as it sounds like we should be getting some Sicario vibes. It’s also radically different from the original proposed fifth movie, which would have seen the iconic character squaring off against and hunting a super strong, inhuman beast.

That idea was based on the novel Hunter, which Sylvester Stallone is actually still intending to make as its own thing, not connected to this franchise. For now, that’s on the burner as he’s also trying to still get The Expendables 4 off the ground. Adrian Grunberg is in the director’s chair for this one, which marks his feature directorial debut Grunberg has spent quite a few years as a second unit and assistant director prior to this. Rambo: Last Blood does not yet have a release date, but it is expected to be released sometime in 2019. Be sure to check out the new photos from Sylvester Stallone’s Instagram below.
