A new version of Robin might be in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. It was finally confirmed Robert Pattison will take on the role of the Dark Knight in the upcoming movie, taking over for Ben Affleck who previously played the superhero. Rumors had been swirling for weeks about Pattinson signing on and now it is confirmed, which means production is gearing up to start soon after waiting years for updates. But will Robin really be there?
According to a casting report, Robin is being considered for a “potential” role in a possible new trilogy. As for which version of the character that is being considered, that is unknown. There are more than a few to choose from including, Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, or Jason Todd, any of which could be brought in for The Batman. It will be interesting to see if Matt Reeves has decided to bring back the sidekick for his upcoming take on the Caped Crusader. Robin has been featured in the Batman franchise more than once, with Chris O’Donnell playing the character in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, being the most notable.
Even with the casting of Robert Pattinson, there is still a lot that we do not know about The Batman. Matt Reeves has teased over the years that he wants to take the character back to his detective roots and by the casting, it is going to be a younger version of Batman, which had also been rumored for years. With that being said, if Robin is going to have a place in the movie, it would seem like the Dick Grayson version would be the most logical at this point, especially since the movie won’t be tied into the DCEU.
